Marty

So I was driving home from school today and I saw Marty (the neighborhood peacock) standing along the side of the road, picking up chics, with all his feathers just out there for everyone to see. I had to stop and have a conversation with Marty, tell him a little bit about having some shame and not just having his goods out for everyone to see, or else it's not that special anymore. Then Marty was all like, "Dawg, I can't help it if I'm big pimpin'!"

Try and explain THIS dream...

As far as dreams go, this might be the kicker.
Abu and I were walking along the streets of Compton, but a part where all the houses were upkept and not going to be fined for dying roses in the front yard. Everyday we walked by, we said hello to none other than Snoop Dogg and directly across the street, Ice Cube. Well, one day we walked by and Snoop invited us in for a snack. So Abu and I come inside Snoop's house and he hands us a pastry and cold drink. Abu scarfs up the pastry and chugs down the drink. While he's doing that, I come to realize that Abu was eating Bhung Pakoras! And to chase it down, was Bhung Iced Tea. I tried to warn him, but it seemed like Abu was on a mission. Out from the rest of his house come all of Snoop's thug friends, all up on Bhung Pakoras and Iced Tea. Well, naturally, I couldn't be the only one standing there trying to figure things out, so I joined the group. Needless to say, when I woke up, I was very confused.

First Day of School

What did I learn on the first day of graduate school? That I fooled people into thinking I should be allowed into graduate school. Oh, and 17 hundred million more reasons why Dr. Atkins started a really bad diet. Ask me all about it.

Cicada Mania

I have finally moved into my new place. It's at the base of a mountain and my bedroom deck faces this forest-y type area. Very serene...during the daytime. The nightime is when the scary part begins. First of all, there are these things called lightning bugs. The are very small, but will flash light through their bodies intermittently. They're really fascinating to look at, and I'm sure when my sister comes to visit, she won't be able to leave the deck cause the light draws you in...that is until she hears about Cicadas. Cicadas are these bugs, about the size of hummingbirds, and resembling cochroaches...that fly. During the daytime I don't even think about them, cause if I do, I would break my lease and move far far away. However, during the night, it's hard not to think about them. They make noises kinda like crickets, but about the same sound level as a jack hammer, seperately. Joined together, it's like permanent roadwork in my backyard at night, but with construction workers that are a whole lot creepier.
To learn about Cicadas and the weirdo people that study them or eat them, they're actually one in the same I suppose, click on the link in the title.
The next little part of nature freaked me out just as much at first, but I came around to the coolness of it. As I was driving along the windy, hilly, foresty neighborhood road to my apt complex, I see this animal walk into to road. So naturally I slam on my breaks (I break for animals-the cute ones anyway) and I come to see a Peacock on the road in front of me. A wild one. A male one. He got so freaked out by me that all of this feathers were in full flashy mode. Actually a very cool site, but then he started screaming at me. Like I just caught him in the shower or something. And man, those peacocks, classified more as death rock than a love ballad. Scared the crap out of me. He screamed, I screamed, I took a picture with my camera phone; all in a days work.
