Think before you eat.

Think before you eat. The last time you had a steak, a sandwich, or even a glass to water to quench your thirst, have you thought about the hundreds of millions of people who don't have it as easy as "Let's go to Outback, let's go to Panera, or even as simple as let's find a water fountain"? Now this isn't a plea to finish your food for the starving children in India; because let's face it, those starving children aren't going to get full even if you did finish your food. This is however a plea to take a step back and humble yourself. I feel like sometimes we get so caught up about getting ahead in this plastic, materialistic world, that we forget that everything we have is a privledge.

I'm not trying to be on a pedistal, and hey, if you're reading this you're asking for my opinion, but this is in the spirit of Ramadan. After you fast all day, all you want is the simple things you've missed all day. Water has never felt so good. I get to stop fighting the envy but also annoyance of those who sit there and talk about what they had for lunch and how hungry they still were. I get to gain a whole new perspective each and everyday I am able to make it through a day when I can fight temptation and cowardess to take the easy way out. To know that I can continue to do this each and every day is a source of empowerment and humility, a reminder of strength and desire, a neverending reminder of faith and appreciation.

For all those who chose to ignorantly watch FOX news, here's the latest. THIS IS THE TRUEST FORM OF JIHAD! That's right, I am waging war...on the weaknesses of my very own temptations, enticement, and ultimately traps. Why is it that we want to do the wrong thing so badly, but once we do it we feel horribly? Why can't we just be strong enough to just not do it in the first place? I am by no means suggesting that I am in that place where I can easily not do the wrong thing, but I am working to be in that place. I will be working to be in that place, God willing, until the day I die. For a country so willing to fight "evil," this is one war that Americans should be a part of, it is definitely one I can support.

Don't hate, it's ugly

You know me, I am the last person to jump to conclusions. I am the last person to assume that the reason someone treats me unfairly or is rude to me is because they are racist. But I can now honestly and safely say I have unargueable experienced my first racist encounter.
I went to ACE Hardware to get some screwdrivers and to get a key made. I found some screwdrivers to finally put my dressers together and went to the counter in the back to get my keys made. I was the only one at the counter and the man behind it with his buzzed mohawk mullet says to me he'll be right with me. Then another lady who decided to not only cut me off but stop right in front of me and not move, stands next to me and to my surprise the man behind the counter takes her 3 keys of which she wanted three copies of each! So ten minutes later, he walks over to me and says yet again that he'll be right with me and procedes to walk over to the man at the other counter so he can make four copies of each of his three keys! Finally this nice non-white young man that worked there made me my one key that took about 30 seconds to make but I had to wait about 15 minutes for.
So then, I took my key and screwdrivers to the front to pay. I was in the only open line which was being run by this little old lady. I finally get to the front and her charming banter with everyone else suddenly disappears and she becomes very cold with me. She only told me how much I owed which was 4 dollars and some change. I went to hand her the change and she just looked at me and waited for me to put the money down on the counter. She then put my receipt back on the counter while my hand was held out waiting for it. As soon as I took my things and walked away, she reverted back to her seemingly normal self.
I still don't know what to do with this, but I can be sure that it did not make for a good feeling. Boo ugly people.

What did I eat Today?

I made Phad Thai last night with chicken, onions, mushroms, zuccini, corn, snow peas, and bean sprouts. It's even yummier for lunch today.

Spring Break 2006

Crazy times, let me tell ya. I decided since I had no money to travel to a warm destination, a warm destination had to come to me. It was upper 70's/lower 80's pretty much everyday here. The only downside to that was that I was inside all day everyday working (refer back to sentence 2). I now feel like I'm a little behind on my tanning schedule, but with spring football starting yesterday, I'm sure I'll be caught up in no time. I did however have time to bond with some of the local roosters and let them know that it is NOT okay to play in the Pizza Hut parking lot or to cockadoodledoo at like Three O'Clock in the afternoon. I think it went well, we made some real progress. On the flip side of that, I had a very psychotic cat staying in my apartment...I'm still doing recon work on my toilet paper to say the least. I did make enough money to pay rent and most of my credit card bill this past week though. That was nice. I don't know if anyone ever told you, but those credit cards are evil. You just hand people this little bit of plastic and you can get whatever you want. What they don't tell you is that you have to pay ALL of it back...and if you don't do it in time, you have to pay more! Bastards.
Now that spring break is over, it is 40-something degrees and raining outside. Awesome. All that means to me is...nap time. Over and out.

GO Hawks, You Rock.

So I went to the Seahawks game on Saturday against the Colts and I have to say, I learned a few things: we had amazing seats, I love Sabrina, Nasreen has the mouth of a sailor, the Colts are going to get beat once more in the Super Bowl, and I miss Seattle like mad.
