Cicada Mania
I have finally moved into my new place. It's at the base of a mountain and my bedroom deck faces this forest-y type area. Very serene...during the daytime. The nightime is when the scary part begins. First of all, there are these things called lightning bugs. The are very small, but will flash light through their bodies intermittently. They're really fascinating to look at, and I'm sure when my sister comes to visit, she won't be able to leave the deck cause the light draws you in...that is until she hears about Cicadas. Cicadas are these bugs, about the size of hummingbirds, and resembling cochroaches...that fly. During the daytime I don't even think about them, cause if I do, I would break my lease and move far far away. However, during the night, it's hard not to think about them. They make noises kinda like crickets, but about the same sound level as a jack hammer, seperately. Joined together, it's like permanent roadwork in my backyard at night, but with construction workers that are a whole lot creepier.
To learn about Cicadas and the weirdo people that study them or eat them, they're actually one in the same I suppose, click on the link in the title.
The next little part of nature freaked me out just as much at first, but I came around to the coolness of it. As I was driving along the windy, hilly, foresty neighborhood road to my apt complex, I see this animal walk into to road. So naturally I slam on my breaks (I break for animals-the cute ones anyway) and I come to see a Peacock on the road in front of me. A wild one. A male one. He got so freaked out by me that all of this feathers were in full flashy mode. Actually a very cool site, but then he started screaming at me. Like I just caught him in the shower or something. And man, those peacocks, classified more as death rock than a love ballad. Scared the crap out of me. He screamed, I screamed, I took a picture with my camera phone; all in a days work.

You probably caught the peacock at a bad time. Maybe he was just coming out of the shower.
When I was in Munich, my hostel was next to this massive park called taxisgarten - and when i would walk home in the evenings, these small lightening bugs would come out to play. They were so small and pretty and nice - I really loved them. I had never seen them before, so I got a little freaked out the first time. Man, that takes me back to some good times. Anyhow, yes, when I come over I will undoubtedly be completely taken with them.
However, I draw the line at flying jackhammer bugs. Like that huge cockroach we saw at Beverly's place. Why does the south insist on having big scary bugs?

Wow... Saboo is getting in touch with nature. Did you ever consider going to tape-school in Mauritania?
On the peakock issue, thank you for not killing it. I like peacocks, and your killing one would have distressed me greatly.
Your use of the word site seems erroneous. Consider 'sight.'
Congratulations on your new post....
Okay, now its old.
New one please.
